We spend approximately one-third of our life in bed so it’s important that we find the right one for a good night's sleep. Research shows that a good night’s sleep is vital to long-term health and with that in mind, here’s our guide to choosing the right bed for you:

Choosing the right bed is not as easy as it may seem. There are a lot of factors that you should take into consideration before making a purchase.

The following thoughts should be considered when choosing a new bed:

Size of the bedroom V size of bed

The size of the bedroom can determine the size of the bed you purchase and, while double beds can take up a lot more space than single beds, they tend to be the optimum size bed for most bedrooms.

Emperor, Super King and King size beds take up more space and are great for larger bedrooms that have the space.

Divan beds are also more compact than standard bed frames and can include under-bed storage. If space is tight then consider what storage options come with your bed, and how you can use it to optimise the space you have available.

Before browsing in our bed store, you should also measure your bedroom and then decide what size bed would be appropriate for it.

Different types of mattresses for beds

There are various types, styles and designs of mattresses to suit your needs.

The first thing you should think about when considering mattresses is what kind of sleeper are you? There are three types of sleepers: side, back and stomach sleepers.

If you mostly sleep on your back, then it’s important that the mattress is not too soft or too hard (just like with Goldilocks and the three bears); if you sleep on your side, then it‘s important that the mattress has plenty of support and if you sleep on your stomach, then make sure that the mattress has enough cushioning to provide comfort for your neck and spine.

You might sleep in different positions and this should also be taken into account.

We recommend visiting our bed store to take a closer look at the different mattresses available. You can then assess the different types to see which ones have the right durability and firmness for you.

Style of the bedroom

The style of your bedroom can impact the type or design of bed that you choose. Wooden beds have a more natural and authentic style of design whereas metal beds tend to suit a more modern design. If you are looking for childrens beds then metal beds look better if their desk and lamp are also metallic.

At International Furniture, our bed shop has a wide range of bed frames and mattresses, including our divan beds as well as our NEW high-quality Scandinavian pine bed frames with extra strong super slats. These wooden beds are durable, stylish and very comfortable.

Location and use of the bed

The location and use of the bed are also important factors to consider. If the bed is to be used in a spare room or games room for occasional visitors (such as family during the festive season) then our range of sofa beds is worth considering.

If, however, it’s for a child’s room then visit our bed store to explore our range of single beds. Double beds are also worth considering as your child gets older.

Whether it’s sofa beds for spare rooms, double beds for you and your partner or single beds for the kids, we have a full range of beds and mattresses in our bed and sofa store in Andover for you to browse.

Budget

Your bed budget can also play a role in the decision-making of a new bed and, at International Furniture, we have beds to suit various budgets.

When deciding on your bed, it’s important to bear in mind that the bed you decide to buy should last several years and, for a consistent comfortable good night’s sleep, it’s worth paying a little bit more.
